On Wednesday 1 November 2017, Sammy joined with party colleagues and members of the wider Orange family to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of friend and colleague, George Dawson former MLA who died on 7 May 2007.
Whether it was the DUP or the Independent Orange Order, which he led diligently for 15 years as Imperial Grand Master, George made an invaluable contribution to every organisation he was a member of.
Given George’s role in acquiring the new HQ for the Independent Orange Order in Ballymoney, the decision to name the main hall in his honour is entirely appropriate. The warmth with which former colleagues spoke of him highlighted the impact that George made across every walk of life he was involved in.
George is fondly remembered by all his friends and colleagues and his counsel in these politically uncertain times is dearly missed.
