Sammy Praises PM On Starting Negotiations To Leave The EU

Speaking in the House of Commons on 29 March 2017 during discussions on the PM’s letter to the EU formally notifying the EU of the UK’s desire to start negotiations to leave, Sammy said ;
I want to wish the Prime Minister well as she carries a heavy burden on her shoulders and has been entrusted with the hopes of millions of UK citizens who want to enjoy a bright future outside the EU. These negotiations will result in us being able to set our own laws, promote our own industries, negotiate our own trade deals and spend our own money, objectives which we should all get behind and support the Government in achieving.
I welcome the specific mention in her letter regarding the border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic and appreciate the considerable time ministers have already given to this issue.
Sadly it seems likely that as a result of Sinn Fein intransigence these negotiations will be conducted in the absence of a functioning Northern Ireland Assembly. Can the PM tell us what specific arrangements will be put in place to deal with Northern Ireland specific issues as negotiations progress.
Sammy welcomed the commitment to engage with political parties, and interested sectors and groups to ensure progress of the negotiations and issues arising would be deal with.
