Sammy has joined the lobby by Breast Cancer Now for improvements in research and treatment for women suffering from breast cancer.
Over the years there has been huge improvements in survival rates of the 50000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.
In Northern Ireland 96 percent of women survive breast cancer for at least one year while 81 percent survive for five years. There is much which can be done to improve survival rates including research into treatments, better and quicker diagnosis, evening out of regional variations in the services available and improved after care when women have been given treatment.
The work of breast cancer now in rising awareness and in raising money for research plays a valuable role in improving survival rates and has our support.
